ORGANIZER

COMPETITIVE:

 Karelian Odyssey is an adventure race with different sports. The winning time is expected to be around 12 or 24 hours, depending on the series. During the race, all team members are on the route at the same time. Karelian Odyssey is the so-called. "non-stop" competition. In the 24-hour series, all teams must be at the finish no later than 4 p.m. (28 hours after departure). In the 12-hour series, all teams must be at the finish no later than 12.00 (15 hours from the start).

Competitors must comply with WADA rules and the Prohibited List. http: /www.antidoping.fi

Competitors must agree that images and video material may be displayed and shared publicly during and after the competition.

TEAM:

There are series for women's, mixed and men's teams. Each team is a two-person team. Team members must stay together throughout the race unless otherwise specified in the itinerary. The distance between competitors must not exceed 100 meters. All competitors must be able to swim. The team must nominate a captain. The team must have a name. The organizers have the right to change or not to approve the team’s name.

MAINTENANCE:

Teams are not allowed to use an outside guardian. Competitors can buy food, drinks, etc. from stores or kiosks during the event.

MAPS AND MARKINGS:

Maps are topographic maps and / or navigation maps at a scale of 1: 1,000 to 1:50,000. Teams must be prepared to protect the maps from the weather. The route passes through checkpoints (CP). CPs are marked on the maps. There are regular orienteering flags in the terrain. Missing a stamp means losing the CP, even if the organizer sees the team visiting the right place using GPS. If the missing stamp is due to a malfunction of the stamp system, the competition jury may release the team from the missing stamp. Teams will receive a route book with all CPs. CPs must be obtained in numerical order, unless otherwise stated in the route book. Teams are not allowed to go through houses, yards or fields. Teams must follow the general rules of the road. Discipline exchange areas are marked on the map “TA”. When a team enters the TA area, they must say their numbers aloud and clearly to the organizers and stamp them when they enter the TA. The organizers can change the route during the competition.

 

RESULTS AND TIME OF COMPETITION:

 The race time is basically the time that elapses between the start and the finish. However, the competition period may also include time credits or fines. The itinerary or instructions given by the organizers during the race may indicate time limits for sections of the race. The result is determined by the finish time and the approved route in the race. To get the result, the teams must reach the finish line within the given time. The finish will close on Sunday 2.7 at 12.00 (12h series) and 16.00 (24h series). The route book may contain detailed rules and instructions. In the event of any conflict between the general competition instructions and the route book, the teams must follow the route book in the first place.

MATERIAL:

 The materials needed for the competition (maps, etc.) will be given to the teams upon registration at the competition site, and the materials provided may be supplemented during the competition. The material contains e.g. check markings, number plates, maps, route book, gps tracking device and possibly other material. Teams are responsible for ensuring that they receive all necessary competition materials. The organizers will not replace materials lost during the competition. All material provided by the organization is mandatory and you may need it to complete the competition. Teams may only use maps provided by the competition organizer. The number plates must be visible throughout the competition.

RULES FOR SPECIES:

The run is proceeded on foot. Mountain biking is progressed by cycling or carrying a bike. Canoeing is canoeing with an open canoe using a single pole paddle. Canoeing is done using canoes rented by the organization or own equipment. The kayaking equipment rented from the organizer includes two single-headed paddles, a canoe and two life jackets. Canoeing takes place in lakes and rivers, where there are e.g. intersecting streams, rapids and fallen trees. Regarding the difficulty rating is 1-2. During the canoe section, transporting the canoe on the road is not permitted. The canoe can be carried a maximum of 300 meters. The use of a canoe cart is prohibited. The team is responsible for the kayaking equipment provided by the organization. All broken equipment will be charged to the team. Teams must agree to show the organizers the mandatory equipment during the competition.

PROHIBITED EQUIPMENT

 • Using a telephone or other electronic device for navigation.

• Electric bike.

• Canoe cart.

• My maps.

TIME FINES / REJECTIONS

 If a team does not follow the rules, a time penalty will be imposed, or performance will be denied.

 Example penalties:

• Doping = Elimination.

• Unsportsmanlike conduct = Penalties / Elimination.

• One team member out of the team = Penalty, the other team member can continue the competition.

• Use forbidden route = Elimination.

• External help = Elimination.

• CP no visit or missing stamp = 3 hour time penalty.

• Absence of mandatory equipment or equipment not in use = 2 hours time penalty.

• Littering = time penalty 30 min / litter.

• More than 100 m between team members = 2 hours time penalty.

• Mandatory route not used = 2 hours time penalty.

• If the rented canoeing equipment breaks down or is lost during the competition, the team will be liable to the organizer.

• Lost GPS locator = € 500

• Lost SI card = € 100

JURY AND POSSIBLE PROTESTS:

There are three people on the jury: the race director, the route master and one selected competitor.

 The jury will take care of:

• The rules.

• Protests.

• Penalties.

The protest shall be made in writing and shall contain:

• Contact information, date and signature.

• Captain's name, date and signature.

• The subject of the protest.

• The rules on which the protest is based.

• Any witnesses, date, place and signatures.

Making a protest costs 50 euros. Payment will be refunded if the protest goes through.

The protest must be made by July 4 at 5 p.m.

The jury will not deal with incomplete protests.

The conditions of the competition cannot be a reason for protest, for example weather, terrain, traffic, etc.

The jury's decision to protest is final.

INSURANCE AND LIABILITY:

Competitors participate in the competition at their own risk.

The organizers do not take out insurance for competitors.

The organizer has a liability insurance that insures against damage caused by the organizer.

Before a team can compete, competitors must:

• Approve the rules.

• Prove they can swim.

• Make sure you are healthy enough to take part in the competition.

 • Confirm that they understand the nature of such competition, ie that there may be unknown dangers in the race.

SAFETY

If someone is injured, they must be helped and not left alone.

The organizers have the right to exclude a competitor if the organizer considers that the competitor is not in a sufficient condition to continue the competition.

In the event of an accident, all competitors are responsible for assisting other competitors. In case of emergency, the competition time will be reimbursed.

In the event of an accident, call the national emergency number 112. Help and give first aid. Call the organizer and wait for instructions.

AMENDMENT OF THE RULES:

The organizers have the right to change the rules before the competition.

All teams will be notified of the changes.
